Starting with Judo at the early age of 7, Nathan Brown was a student martial arts and eastern philosophy long before moving to Thailand in 2002 looking for a life more atuned to the Taoist philosophies that he had come to love.

After living in Thailand for several months and expanding his experience studying Kung Fu, Jiu-Jitsu, Capoera, Tai Chi and Aikido in Bangkok, Nathan was introduced to Muay Chaiya by a friend after discussions about Jeet Kune Do (which was now at the core of Nathan’s martial approach) and streetfighting techniques.

The first meeting with Kru Lek made a great impression, especially after sparring with Tae for the first time and seeing the beauty in simplicity which is Muay Chaiya. Seeing the practicality in defence, and efficiency and directness of attack, he also saw many similarities with the more advanced concepts of fighting that he’d learnt from studying the Jeet Kune Do concepts of Bruce Lee.

After 4 years of working and learning part time, Nathan quite his business as a programmer and started to study full time at Baan Chang Thai with Ajarn Lek and the Baan Chang Thai familly.

Nathan was taken aback several months later, when Ajarn Lek was confident enough with his understanding of the style to ask him to go to Phuket and teach Muay Thai Chaiya at Sukko Spa (a large Spa Resort that teaches many forms of Thai arts). Nathan found himself teaching Muay Thai with a full Vise and work permit (something not normally allowed foriegners teaching muay thai in Thailand) teaching Thai people Muay Thai Chaiya using the Thai language.

After teaching at Sukko Spa for a year, Kru Nathan left to start teaching privately, seeking a less confining environment to teach and explore the style.

From fighting in the ring, helping with TV production at Baan Chang Thai, and private teaching, Nathan has since been able to fully esplore the style, and make good use of it.

Nathan has also done translation work for Baan Chang Thai, and whenever he's in Bangkok, helps with the teaching and seminars when he's needed.

Still visiting Baan Chang Thai on a regular basis, Kru Nathan will shortly be heading to the UK where he hopes to teach some fellow Brits some of what he has learnt in his past 8 years in Thailand.

Nathan is now training and teaching privately in Phuket, constantly expanding his knowledge and experience in both Muay Chaiya and martial arts.

Keen to bring Muay Thai Chaiya to the west, Kru Nathan continues to publish videos and information about the style, teaching techniques and concepts to many eager martial artists around the world.
